Tarique Rahman‍‍`s nomination declared valid

The nomination paper of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for the Bogura-6 constituency was declared valid on Saturday.

Returning Officer Md Toufiqul Rahman announced the decision in the morning after reviewing nomination papers at his office. The nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate Principal Abidur Rahman Sohel was also declared valid for the seat.

However, nomination papers of Islami Andolan candidate ANM Mamunur Rashid, JSD candidate Abdullah Al Waki, and Basad candidate Dilruba were rejected during the scrutiny process.

Tarique Rahman submitted his nomination papers on December 29 to contest the upcoming national election from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies. Earlier, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said Tarique would run from the two seats as part of the party’s election strategy.

The 13th parliamentary election is scheduled for February 12. Election campaigning will begin on January 22 and continue until 48 hours before polling starts at 7:30am on February 10.
